We use a dynamic publishing model. Instead of fixed seasonal releases, we’ll be unveiling new editions of The Quiet Reader once we’ve gathered a collection of 10 truly outstanding stories. This approach ensures that each edition is a treasure trove of literary gems, carefully selected to inspire, move, and captivate you.
Your creativity and passion fuel The Quiet Reader. While our selection process is rigorous and demanding, it reflects our respect for the craft and our readers. The Quiet Reader welcomes submissions of literary short stories (up to 4,000 words), flash fiction, and non-fiction.
We read all the submissions we receive.
Submission Guidelines:
- One Story at a Time: Submit only one unpublished story at a time.
- Simultaneous Submissions: Allowed, but inform us immediately if accepted elsewhere.
- Diverse Voices: Writers of all identities, backgrounds, and locations are encouraged to submit.
- Novellas and Excerpts: Accepted if self-contained.
- Translations: Include original author’s permission.
- No Revisions: Revisions are not accepted post-submission.
- Withdrawal Policy: Withdraw anytime, except within three months of our publication notice.
Verification: To verify your submission, complete this sentence in your submission form in your most literary creative way: “When I was 14 years old…”
Response Time: We strive to respond within three months. Contact us if you have received no response after four months.
Agreement: By submitting, you agree to collaborate with our editors and meet publishing deadlines.
Formatting:
- Word Count: Max 4,000
- File Format: .doc/.docx
- Line Spacing: 1.5 or double spaced, 12pt Times New Roman
- No: headers, addresses, page numbers, word counts, photographs, bios or animations…
Rights
You retain all rights post-publication. Your work will be archived online, possibly included in our ebook collection, and may be promoted on our social media.
Submission Process:
- You’ll receive an email confirmation within one week.
- Our staff readers review submissions.
- If shortlisted for publication, senior editors will review and suggest edits.
